Abstract
This article discusses the distinction between algorithmic and experiential simulations from a semiotic perspective. Parallels are drawn between theories and definitions of play, and theories and definitions of simulations. Conclusions concern the degree to which defining simulations as a form of representational play might more clearly explicate the value and function of educational simulations.
