Abstract
Research on stress has shown that race, gender, and class significantly affect coping. This article reports the findings of a qualitative study that examined how Black mothers and daughters ( n = 168) coped with stress. The results indicated socialization and education helped the women learn how to cope with stress. The article concludes with a discussion about the practical implications of intergenerational dialogues and future research.
