Abstract
A new approach is presented for the analysis of the chromosome boundary, based on the following philosophy: starting from the most relevant information of the boundary, the program follows the most reliable path of recognition (out of a large number) shifting continuously between local and contextual criteria. Feedback procedures allow the modification of decisions already taken, on the bases of results of computations carried out at a higher level. The presented results concern the analysis of 40 unbanded cells and 20 banded ones. The error rate, less than 5%, represents a sharp improvement in comparison with our previous methods.
