Abstract
In a 10-year period, 159 out of 16825 total deliveries had premature rupture of fetal membranes giving an incidence of 0.94%. The condition poses a serious threat to both mother and the infant. Maternal infection increased exponentially with the latent period. The institution of an active management programme is suggested as a way of reducing the hazards associated with this condition.
