Abstract
Fifteen students worked for two hours inspecting pennies. Each subject performed under 90, 100, 110, 120, and 130% (of self-paced) and self-paced, in random order. As pacing rate increased the percentage of hits increased but the hit rate increased only1 10% while pacing increased 44%. Thus, faster pacing does increase production but at the expense of quality. Judged difficulty from 90% of self paced to 130% increased from “fairly easy” to “very hard.”
