Abstract

Injuries of the gastro-intestinal tract occur in approximately 10 per cent of children with either blunt or penetrating trauma to the abdomen. These injuries require prompt surgical intervention, and in general are curable with an excellent prognosis if one is alert to the possibility of their occurrence and is familiar with the approaches to prompt and accurate diagnosis.
