Abstract
Hypnosis is a curious phenomena which has captured the interest and imagination of individuals and cultures for centuries. This article presents it as a perspective from which to analyze religious events. Initially, the reader is acquainted with the history of hypnosis; then, with the present state of the science. Several religious experiences are considered, showing that the hypnotic element might explain some of the phenomena. Finally, some implications of an hypnotic aspect in religious events are considered.
