Abstract

A review of the factors affecting policy on stock relegation in British university libraries, principally the interaction of libraries with their parent universities. The principal criteria used for weeding bookstocks are reviewed with examples from current practice; and the costs of relegation are examined. Data are presented summarizing the overlap of holdings of relegated material in university libraries with the holdings of the British Library Lending Division.
