Continent urinary diversion: Evolution of techniques

Abstract

– The panel discussion is introduced with emphasis being placed on the continuing development of urinary diversion techniques, the history of which is briefly summarized. To date, indications for external continent diversion are limited. Women in particular, who have long been considered as ideal candidates for continent diversion, are now being submitted with increasing frequency to orthotopic bladder reconstruction to the urethra.
