Abstract
Liaison in the hospital
Healthcare is becoming increasingly more complex. Different types of healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses and physiotherapists specialize to improve their healthcare provision. One of the pitfalls of this evolution is that, due to a lack of knowledge in other healthcare-related domains, no optimal care can be granted to patients presenting with more complex problems that cross the boundaries of the own discipline of expertise. Moreover, due to a lack of dialogue between colleagues, conflicting advices can arise, posing difficulties to the attending physician to make the right decisions for the patient. Thus, collaboration is mandatory to provide optimal patient care. In this article, some active forms of cooperation between different hospital disciplines are discussed, more precisely psychiatry, urology, infectious diseases and geriatrics.
