Abstract
Two experiments are described which investigated the effect of adaptation to real movement on the perception of subsequent apparent movement. A marked adaptation carry-over effect was observed for which no explanation could be found other than that the same movement-detecting mechanism mediates both real and apparent movement phenomena.
