Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the psychological symptoms of university students in emerging adulthood according to their psychological help-seeking behaviors. The research is a descriptive study in relational screening model. The study population of the research is young people between the ages of 18-25 who are studying at the university. The simple random method was used as the sampling method in the study. The data were obtained through the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Application and Research Center of a public university, by reaching the students studying at the university online. "Personal Information Form" and "Short Symptom Inventory" were used in the study. A total of 253 students' data were analyzed. According to the findings, it was determined that depression, hostility and total symptom levels were high in emerging adulthood. It has been determined that women and individuals who receive professional psychological support have more psychological symptoms. It has been determined that the search for psychological support differs significantly for depression and does not differ significantly according to the willingness to receive psychological support. Based on the findings of high levels of depression and hostility in young people and higher psychological symptoms in female students in the study, individual and group counseling activities can be organized by psychological counseling and guidance units at universities.
