Abstract
The Rincon field of South Texas is one of many important producing fields associated with the Frio‐Vicksburg flexure which is parallel and downthrown to the Sam Fordyce‐Vanderbilt fault zone. Exploration started at Rincon in 1935 and resulted in the discovery of Frio oil in 1938 and Vicksburg oil in 1950. Development of the shallow Frio and Vicksburg reserves is continuing today. The use of modern tools in the late 1960’s indicates there is potential for future development and extension of reserves at Rincon. Improved seismic techniques including Vibroseis and digital processing provided deep structural information that allowed the interpretation of the gross Rincon structure for the first time. This information set the stage for another round of drilling to seek the ultimate reserves in this old established field.
