Abstract
While remote sensing had its simple beginning in the form of conventional aerial photography many years ago, it has advanced over the past few decades to sophisticated digital multispectral data gathering and analysis and is being accepted as a standard exploration technique. In recent years, improvements in instrumentation have permitted the recording of a wide spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, including the following segments: gamma ray, x‐ray, ultraviolet, visible, infrared, microwave, and radio, which have ample transmittance in the atmosphere. The growth of professional interest in remote sensing was greatly advanced by the success of the Landsat satellite system. This has led to magnetic satellite surveys and, more recently, to gravity satellite surveys. Thus, tracking of artificial satellites, combined with various new satellite observational systems and analytical processes, is providing detailed information on global as well as local geophysical anomalies.
