Abstract
During the past decade, full-waveform inversion (FWI) has advanced rapidly in the seismic industry. FWI research and applications are making continual progress to address the technical and business challenges we face today in the upstream sector. Key hallmarks of this technology range from velocity-modeling building to producing high-resolution subsurface images in complex environments. The significant work on FWI in the last decade clearly indicates that it is one of the top fields of research in the geophysical community with the potential to extract enhanced subsurface information from seismic data.
