Abstract
I read with interest R. C. Burnett’s paper on amplitude and AVO analyses and found it surprising that, when using a low Poisson’s ratio for the gas sands, there was not a greater difference in the AVO response compared to that of using a high Poisson’s ratio (Figure 11 in his paper). This is contrary to what I would expect based on my experience with AVO modeling. I have found that when there is a large change in Poisson’s ratio (greater than 0.2) between layers, this usually has a significant effect on the AVO response even if the layers are thin.
