Abstract
While I commend the gravity survey which overcame serious operational difficulties to delineate the apparently pristine Rukwa Rift, I believe there are aspects of the rift analysis which require discussion. It would have been useful to analyze the main bounding faults in combination with the steep flanking escarpments using the comprehensive 2‐D method demonstrated by Anfiloff and Flavelle (1982), which allows for automatic terrain corrections and upward‐continuation effects but requires a detailed gravity traverse set out so that major inflections in topography are not avoided, as is the usual practice.
