Abstract

Let A A be a finitely generated commutative (or PI) algebra over an associative commutative ring. We discuss extensions of classical theorems of Selberg and Engel to the groups A u t ( A ) Aut(A) and the Lie algebra D e r ( A ) Der(A) .
