Abstract

Let M M be a S p i n Spin -manifold of positive sectional curvature and dimension > 8 >8 . Suppose a compact connected Lie group G G acts smoothly on M M . We show that the characteristic number A ^ ( M , T M ) \hat A(M,TM) vanishes if G G contains two commuting involutions acting isometrically on M M .
