Abstract

Let G G be an arbitrary group. It is proved that if Z G \mathbb {Z}G contains a bicyclic unit u ≠ 1 u\ne 1 , then ⟨ u , u ∗ ⟩ \langle u,u^*\rangle is a nonabelian free subgroup of invertible elements.
