Abstract
The conditions in which organizations currently operate are characterized by high complexity and instability, which puts them in completely new qualitative circumstances. Complexity means an extremely dynamically growing number of factors affecting enterprises. Both the number, as well as the extraordinary dynamic of change of the factors affecting the functioning and development of the organization make managers face difficult choices that determine success or failure. Modern determinants resulting, among others, from the scale of instability of the environment, the high pace of technical progress, and globalization processes pose a number of complex decision-making problems to every organization, the solution of which requires making decisions at the strategic, tactical and operational level. In addition to the effectiveness of the decisions taken, their efficiency, purposefulness and infallibility are also important. These decisions should be rational and ensure the achievement of the assumed goals. Due to the degree of complexity of decision-making problems and the need to consider many factors, the experience and competence of the decisionmaker are no longer sufficient. Hence, there is a need to search for better and better methods and tools for decision-making support. On the way to creating the right development path, the decision-making process is important. This puts ambitious tasks in front of the managerial staff in terms of speed, quality of decisions made, based, among others, on identification of key resources and success factors in the organization, as well as identification of opportunities and threats in the environment. Decision making is related to the process of choosing the right course of action. This often requires choosing the “best” option from many possible solutions.
