Abstract
This document proposes a method to define the distance between a set of points and an ellipse, which can<br/>be used as cost function of a Genetic Algorithm - or any other kind of solvers - to solve the ellipse fitting<br/>problem. This method involves a metrics to retrieve the correct polygon edge to be compared with each<br/>point of the set, featuring linear time complexity.<br/>
