1. Three different types of fabric are used in the rings and sails of the full-scale parachute. 2.2 oz/yd2is used in Rings 1-4, 1.2 oz/yd2is used in Sails 1-5, and 1.1 oz/yd2is used in Sails 6-9. As the sub-scale main parachutes were to be used at relatively low loads and slow descent rates, fabric permeability (how much air can move through the fabric) was not deemed an important parameter. Therefore, to simplify the manufacturing process and to simulate the scaled weight of the combined materials, 1.1 oz/yd2was implemented for all 13 rings and sails.
