Abstract
Binder and Polymer Assisted Powder Processing is an engineering guide to powder-binder-based manufacturing methods. It covers the basic principles, current and emerging practices, implementation, and cost. It describes how metal, ceramic, and composite powders are produced, how they are characterized, and how they behave during subsequent processing steps. It discusses the role of binders and how their various constituents can be adjusted to optimize melting temperature, wetting, viscosity, strength, and other properties. It explains how powders and binders are combined to form feedstocks and how they are assessed based on factors such as density, elasticity, rheological behavior, and surface energy. It also provides information on shaping processes, binder removal, and sintering densification and presents case studies focusing on the production of stainless steel, cemented carbide, and alumina components. The book also includes property data and identifies future opportunities. For information on the print version, ISBN: 978-1-62708-275-4, follow this link.
