Abstract
This paper takes a brief empirical look at a sustainable hypothesis in terms of the Malmquist–Luenberger (ML)1 index, using data from the island of Taiwan. The findings suggest that international hotel chains (ITH)2 have better average energy efficiency when globally accounting for carbon emissions reductions. Thus it is recommended that public policymakers promote green hotel policies and encourage independent hotel operators to become contracted members of international hotel chains for sustainable development with fewer carbon emissions.
