Abstract

The effect of stocking density on the post-larval production of Macrobrachium rosenbergii has been studied. A two-phase larval rearing technique involving high-density rearing of early larvae for 10-12 days followed by low-density rearing of advanced larvae (stage VI) was followed. In the first phase of rearing, the stocking density did not show any effect on survival. However, in the second phase of rearing, percentage of survival decreased with increasing stocking density. Post-larval production per litre was found to be maximum at a stocking density of 55/1, and both higher and lower stocking densities resulted in decreased production per litre of the medium.
