Abstract
Effect of intraperitoneal injection of different inducing agents viz., pituitary gland (PG) extract, PG + domperidone (DOM), PG + pimozide (PIM) (all in two split doses) and ovaprim (in single dose) on ovulation and spawning in three Indian major carps such as rohu, catla and mrigal were investigated. Injection of PG extract alone to rohu, catla and mrigal resulted in ovulation of 93.3, 90.6 and 100% individuals, respectively. The spawning success achieved was 91.6, 71.8 and 100% in rohu, catla and mrigal, respectively. PG at the same dose alongwith dopamine antagonist (DOM/PIM) resulted in ovulation in all the individuals of the three species of carp but partial spawning to complete spawning was observed in them. The present study revealed that the domperidone alongwith hormonal suspension is more effective in rohu and mrigal, while pimozide with hormonal suspension is more effective in catla.
