Abstract
Ancient time of human civilization, medicinal plants are utilized by humans for its therapeutic and medicinal property. Nature is great source of medicinal plants from thousands of year and so many drugs are now isolated and extracted from medicinal plants. Traditional medicine is affordable and easily accessible source for many treatment in the primary healthcare system to treat many poor communities in India and different countries. Currently the interest is to seek out Nutraceuticals from medicinal plants to avoid adverse effect of synthetic drugs and for economic purpose. India is great resource of medicinal herbs. Tinospora cordifolia is a extensively used shrub in Ayurveda systems of medicine all over India. Almost all of its part have medicinal property and used in traditional systems of medicine but Leaves, stem and roots are the most important parts which are used medicinally. Tinospora cordifolia is a versatile resource of medicinal plant used for many purpose in life. It belongs to family Menispermaceae. Recently the discovery and new research of active components from the Tinospora cordifolia and its biological function for disease controlling property has led to active interest in the plant across the globe. The scope of these review in future is to exploit biochemical and signaling pathways affect which is isolated from Tinospora and from these we can prepare new and effective formulation in disease eradication. The review paper will highlight the various ethnobotanical and traditional uses. It also focused on various pharmacological, phytochemical and clinical reports on Tinospora cardifolia.
