Dr. Henry Turner initially identified with Turner syndrome in 1938. It is an uncommon chromosomal condition where one X chromosome is absent in females, either completely or partially. Dr. Turner's groundbreaking research allowed for the recognition of Turner syndrome as a distinct clinical entity and cleared the path for subsequent advancements in genetics and cytogenetics that explained the problems of chromosomal origin. The treatment of Turner syndrome was transformed in the 1970s with the advent of hormone replacement therapy, which improved the prognosis and quality of life for those with the condition.
