Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the features of the modal indicators of
the indicative, subjunctive, and conditional moods in French in modern
journalistic langauge on the basis of the leading article by the famous French
journalist Matio Ten, published in the daily “Le Monde” on December 22,
2020.
The verb modality stated in the text - indicative, conditionnel, subjonctif,
imperatif in French, preserving the main modal values in the framework,
when exposed to semantic contamination at the level of the whole text,
acquires additional value of deontic modality.
Deontic modality is also observed when using the personal pronoun “nous”
that states inner imperative modality.
