A Laminated Composite Solid Element and its Application to Tire Analysis

Abstract

Abstract This paper describes a solid isoparametric element which can incorporate multiple composite layers in the same element and still predict in-plane and out-of-plane coupling. Finite element models using this element have been used with good success to predict the global response of a tire during contact. This element, used in conjunction with any of a number of global-local methodologies, offers potential for reducing the computational effort required in the analysis of tires.
