Abstract
The purpose of the study is to determine the specifics of science sociality. The concepts of the scientific community formulated by R. Merton, P. Bourdieu and B. Latour are compared. The evolution of the scientific community as a method of self-description of scientists is considered. It was found that the ideal embodied in Respublica Literaria collides with the real practices of science. This leads to the fact that the actions of actors within the scientific community, considered in this optics, appear as internally contradictory. Scientific novelty lies in the identification of various ways of existence of the scientific community, due to the approach to the definition of its formation mechanisms.
