On sharp characters of type {−1,3} or {−3,1}

Abstract

For a character [Formula: see text] of a finite group [Formula: see text], it is known that the product [Formula: see text] is a multiple of [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is the image of [Formula: see text] on [Formula: see text]. [Formula: see text] is said to be sharp of type [Formula: see text] if [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we study the case [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] under the additional hypothesis [Formula: see text]. We prove that [Formula: see text] is isomorphic to [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], or C4, and [Formula: see text] for some [Formula: see text].
