Abstract

Metallic materials are a class of well-developed engineering materials and have been extensively used in various engineering fields. Material removal that resulted from wear, mostly dry friction conditions, must be taken into consideration in the practical engineering application. Therefore, the tribological behavior of metallic materials and the process to improve their wear resistance under dry friction conditions are worth studying. This work begins with the research progress of the friction behavior of metallic materials in the sight of at room temperature and high temperature, as well as under the effect of magnetic field. Some surface modification technologies for improving the wear resistance of metallic materials under dry friction are also summarized.
