Abstract
In light N > Z nuclei ( A = 9 - 22) clusters absorb a large amount of the nuclear binding energy induced by the nucleon-nucleon forces, such substructures are mainly α-clusters, 16 O and 14 C nuclei. The valence neutrons are arranged in molecular orbitals, where a residual and weaker covalent binding is induced between the nuclear clusters. Recent studies show that the 14 C nucleus has to be included in the molecular cluster binding diagram, which is an extension of the well known Ikeda-diagram.
