Abstract
Some conceptual problems for the interpretation of osp(1|2) as a spectrum generating algebra for the bosonic harmonic oscillator are resolved using quantum groups. We show that in place of the superalgebra osp(1|2) one may work equivalently with its bosonization, bosp(1|2), which we introduce. It is a quantum group and provides a purely bosonic spectrum generating algebra for the harmonic oscillator. The construction is extended to include the q-deformed situation also.
