Abstract
The eta function in BF topological field theory is computed in a gauge which is both non-local and non-covariant. As expected, the result differs from that obtained when a covariant gauge is used. An explicit calculation of the Vilkovisky-DeWitt correction term is then presented which allows one to recover the covariant gauge result, which is proportional to the Chern-Simons term.
