The cogrowth series for BS(N, N) is D-finite

Abstract

We compute the cogrowth series for Baumslag–Solitar groups BS (N, N) = 〈a,b|aNb = baN〉, which we show to be D-finite. It follows that their cogrowth rates are algebraic numbers.
