Abstract
This paper deals with two methods of including magnetic saturation in induction machines d–q equations. The first one, based on the main flux saturation, is characterized by the well-known phenomenon called cross-saturation. The second avoids such phenomenon consisting of magnetic coupling between orthogonal axes d and q. It was proven that, if the nonlinear static and dynamic machine inductances are suitably modeled, both methods give exactly the same results whatever the mode of operation motor or generator. As unusual, comparison between models shows that the second method without d–q cross-coupling is the advantageous and thus advised.
