SHAPE EIGENSTATES AND OTHER ONE- AND TWO-DIMENSIONAL ALPHA-CLUSTER STRUCTURES IN LIGHT NUCLEI

Abstract

The recent experimental discovery of a shape eigenstate in 24 Mg has inspired calculations for one- and two-dimensional alpha-cluster configurations in a wide range of light nuclei. We review the alpha-cluster and heavy-ion resonance data available for A=4N nuclei from 12 C through 28 Si which indicate likely experimental candidates corresponding to some of these new theoretical predictions. In particular we assign the oblate structure in 24Mg to the resonances in [Formula: see text] first observed by Fulton et al. We also review the spin systematics of these data.
