Abstract
We compare the “isolated lepton+3 jet” and “eµ” signatures of [Formula: see text] production at the Tevatron [Formula: see text] collider, paying particular attention to the possible backgrounds. We conclude that the definitive identification of a top quark in the mass range mt≳Mw will be difficult and will require large luminosity, typically L>1pb−1; it will be necessary to identify eµ events with large missing energy, as well as the more numerous lepton+3 jet events.
