ON THE REPRESENTATION OF Tr(e(A-λB)) AS A LAPLACE TRANSFORM

Abstract

The conjecture made in 1976 by Bessis, et al. that Tr (e(A-λB)) is the Laplace transform of a positive measure when A and B are Hermitean matrices and B semi positive definite is still not solved. We review some attempts made toward the solution of the question, and provide several unpublished partial results. We also quote some mathematical problems related to this question.
