Abstract

We give here a brief introduction to the plasma state. We consider the basic resonance processes in a plasma, in particular, the mode resonances and the particle resonances. We discuss the various mechanisms leading to complex behavior of particles and waves in a plasma. Discrete maps corresponding to typical plasma situations are used and their main properties are discussed. Complexity can also be applied to plasma transport and to magnetic confinement. The processes of particle acceleration and their possible use for plasma accelerators are also considered.
