Synthesis and photoluminescence properties of novel BASI4O6N2:EU2+ phosphor

Abstract

Using Eu2O3, BaCO3, Si3N4 and SiO2 as starting materials, we succeeded in synthesizing BaSi4O6N2:Eu[Formula: see text] by firing the mixture at 1100C for 2[Formula: see text]h in a reducing atmosphere (N2(95%)–H2(5%)). As a result, a single phase was obtained by setting the charge composition ratio to Si/[Formula: see text]. When the Eu[Formula: see text] activation amount was 1%, it showed a broad emission in the range of 400–600[Formula: see text]nm under the excitation light of ultraviolet rays at 320[Formula: see text]nm. This phosphor exhibited chromaticity coordinates of [Formula: see text] under irradiation with ultraviolet rays at 320[Formula: see text]nm and is thought to be a promising phosphor for ultraviolet-excited white LEDs.
