Abstract
We studied the tunnel junctions of s-wave superconductors in the presence of nonmagnetic impurities and uncondensed quasiparticles. Contrary to general belief, we found that the tunneling conductance in an SIN junction made of strong-coupling superconductors is modified by uncondensed quasiparticles. Also, the Josephson current in an SIS junction can be drastically reduced by these particles from the standard result of Ambegaokar and Baratoff. In weak-coupling superconductors, the conventional junction behaviors are restored.
