Abstract

Lead dioxide (PbO[Formula: see text] electrodes have been actively studied since their large-scale application in energy storage industries in the late 20th century. In modern industry, PbO2 electrodes are anodically electrodeposited from the oxidizing and toxic chloride and nitrate systems. In recent studies, the PbO2 electrodeposition from methanesulfonate medium is widely proposed owing to the large ion solubility and environmental friendliness. The further developments in PbO2 electrodeposited from methanesulfonate electrolytic system is now becoming increasingly important and its future scale-up applications could be envisaged. In this regard, this review illustrates the recent developments of lead dioxide electrodes prepared from methanesulfonate electrolytes.
