Taurodonti forekommer i de fleste populasjoner, og kan beskrives som en anatomisk variasjon av tenner.
Taurodontisme oppstår ved at den Hertwigs epiteliale rotskjede (HERS) ikke folder seg på vanlig horisontalt nivå. Utløsende faktorer kan være eksterne og interne.
Taurodonte tenner graderes i gruppene hypo-, meso- og hypertaurodont.
Tenner med større anatomiske avvik krever spesielle endodontiske hensyn.
