Reclassification of probioticLactobacillus acidophilusNCIMB 30184 asLactobacillus helveticusandLactobacillus caseiNCIMB 30185 asLacticaseibacillus paracasei

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe strains NCIMB 30184 and NCIMB 30185, originally designated asLactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus caseirespectively, have been studied in published pre-clinical and clinical studies. Their nucleotide sequences of the 16S rRNA were compared with public databases and were preliminarily found to have the highest similarity withLactobacillus helveticusandLacticaseibacillus paracaseispecies respectively. Subsequently, total 16S and 23S rRNA genes were compared with their most similar taxa, and the preliminary identification asLactobacillus helveticusandLacticaseibacillus paracaseiwere confirmed.
