Abstract
This paper discusses stress in healthcare, particularly in the mental healthcare profession, and its impact on the employees, the patients, and organizational performance. The paper will address the different theories and models of stress, various types of stress, and evidence-based approaches to stress management. A particular group of healthcare workers, mental healthcare workers, is the target of this paper. The paper will describe the effects of stress on the targeted mental health workers and the role the leaders and managers must have in providing a safe and stress-free environment for them. However, the conclusion of this paper applies to all healthcare worker groups.
