Abstract
Whether one subscribes to a product or process definition of creativity, the abstract science of mathematics is one of the most original creations of the human mind. As A. N. Whitehead (1958) noted, with the possible exception of music it is difficult to conceive of a more purely creative endeavor than modern mathematics, dealing as it does with the abstractions of things divorced from any specific physical sensations or feelings.
